Where is it native?Berberis thunbergii (Japanese barberry,Thunberg's barberry, or Red
barberry) is a species of Berberis, native to Japan and eastern Asia.  

What kind of environment is it found in in it’s native habitat? Once established, Japanese barberry tolerates a wide array of site conditions, from full sun to shade and it’s not really picky about soil conditions.

What are the effects of this invasive species on the ecosystem?
Raises ph in soil from their seeds which kills native plant species This species doesn't help anything
native to  Vermont.  This plant provides shelter for ticks and causes ticks to transfer lyme disease.
It reproduces through seeds, rhizomes or layering and  forms dense thickets
that choke out native wildflowers and tree saplings.

What impacts do you think it will have?
It is thriving in the biodiversity of Vermont by 1220 if not managed it could take over all of America native plants could be wiped out and became extinct.

What are the best ways to remove this species?
Pull them out by the roots if you don't pull out the roots all the way they will resprout put them in a pile you could either burn them or put a tarp over them for the summer
so they die.
